What more says going through the most than taking an ‘innocent’ 30 minute study break during a 2017 mid-year Journalism examination season and suddenly being entranced in a 3-hour procrastination session of creating GIFs from the continent’s most iconic media moments? That is exactly what happened to our founder, Lelo Macheke. So duh, the next natural thing to do was to create an African-centred database of GIFs made from exclusively African content and name it “GOWISHA”.
The digital space is fast becoming one of the most important, as Africans individually and collectively figure themselves out and strive to have a story to tell.
GOWISHA was constructed to archive, reclaim, reflect, and recreate our times. Perhaps, all we have ever done is go through the most in realising we are the ones we have truly been waiting for.
